St Augustine surgeon Jeremy Caudill runs a winning 16:42 at the Bridge of Lions 5K

As the oldest city in the United States, Saint Augustine, Florida is full of architectural landmarks, including Castillo de San Marcos, the Saint Augustine lighthouse, and the Bridge of Lions. Each July since 1985 the bridge has also drawn the attention of distance runners coming the Ancient City for the Bridge of Lions 5K. Saint Augustine's own Dr. Jeremy Caudill won the 34th annual Bridge of Lions race on Saturday morning, 14 July 2018, edging out Alejandro Hernandez of Miami, Florida 16:42 to 16:48. Ormond Beach, Florida athlete Stefanie Braun took the women's title, placing fifteenth overall in 19:52.


Behind the battle between Caudill and Hernandez, Terrance Sessoms of Jacksonvile, Florida ran 16:58 for third. A Sandalwood High alum, Sessoms just finished his first year of running cross-country and track at Savannah State. Shad McGrew, who spent the 2017 cross-country season running for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, placed fourth in 17:23. Leo Fila of Ponte Vedra, Florida was the top master runner in the race and ninth overall in 19:01.


Women's champ Stefanie Braun was from Ormond Beach, and so was the women's runner-up, Mallory Kennedy. Kennedy finished twentieth overall in 20:24. A few steps behind Kennedy, Claire McDonnell, a rising junior on the Father Lopez High cross-country team, was third in the women's standings and 22nd overall in 20:27.


Isabel Torres-Padin, who runs cross-country at Case Western Reserve University, was the fourth woman and 24th overall in 20:54. Tracy Dutra of Melbourne, Florida was the first woman master and fifth female finisher, 28th overall in 21:04.


1090 athletes finished the 2018 Bridge of Lions 5K. RaceSmith chip-timed the event.
