Tampa has Gasparilla. Lake Charles has the Louisiana Pirate Festival. So why shouldn't Panama City Beach, Florida have the Pirates Of The High Seas Fest? And since 2017, the annual Fest has included the Pirates Of The High Seas 5K. Ivan De La Cruz won the second annual Pirates 5K on Saturday morning, 6 October 2018, running 19:20. Christina Romano was the first woman in the race, placing eighth overall in 22:37.De La Cruz is a junior on the Mosley High cross-country team, and he wasn't the only schoolboy in the race. The Shaldera Track Club's Nicolas Waddell, a student at Mowat Middle School, took second in 19:38. Matt Murzyn, a senior on the North Bay Haven cross-country team, was third in 20:54. It wasn't all youth up front, though. The top master runner in the race, Lee Bennett, placed fourth overall in 21:38.
Joanna Sugameli was second to Romano in the women's standings, placing thirteenth overall in 23:33. Peggy Bailey was the first woman master and third female finisher, nineteenth overall in 24:50.
