William Rodgers won the sixth annual Run For Your Lungs 5K in 2016, but the Cordele, Georgia athlete was absent from the race in 2017. On Saturday morning, 3 November 2018, Rodgers was back Lake Blackshear Resort, just outside of Cordele, for the eighth annual Run For Your Lungs 5K. He was a winner once again, finishing nearly half a kilometer ahead of the next runner in 18:45. Crisp High sophomore cross-country runner Allie Brown captured the women's title, placing fourth overall in 22:22.Garrison Slaughter, a seventh-grader on the Deerfield-Windsor middle school cross-country team, went 20:48 to finish runner-up in the 5K. Albany, Georgia's Michael Trammell was the first master runner in the race, placing third overall in 21:35.
Karen McNally of Albany was the first woman master and second female finisher in the race, coming in tenth overall in 23:22. Cordele master runner Ame Gibbs was third in the women's standings and thirteenth overall in 23:58.
201 athletes finished the 2018 Run For Your Lungs 5K. Event Tech of Sylvester, Georgia timed the race. The ninth annual Run For Your Lungs 5K is scheduled for Saturday morning, 2 November 2019.
