Alec Munger and Tracey Cole lead at Lake Park

Three months after Saturday morning, 27 April 2019, it's likely that Alec Munger will be starting his junior year cross-country season at Lowndes High in Valdosta, Georgia. But on 27 April 2019 itself, Munger was a few miles south of Valdosta in Lake Park, Georgia winning the inaugural Calvary 5K. Racing on roads rather than trails, Munger went the 3.1 miles in 17:15. Tracey Cole, a master runner from Pinetta, Florida, was the first woman in the race, placing fourth overall in 23:21.

Lake Park's own Justin Tracy finished runner-up in the Calvary 5K, coming in just over a hundred meters behind the winner in 17:40. Fourteen-year-old Aaron Munger of Valdosta, Georgia took third in 21:35. Billy Taylor, a 70-year-old Valdosta athlete, was the first male master in the 5K, placing fifth overall and fourth in the men's standings at 24:20.


Valdosta master runner Galen Mirate was the second woman in the race, eighth overall in 32:04. Ashley Thompson of Valdosta was the third female finisher and fourteenth overall in 34:22.


51 athletes finished the 2019 Calvary 5K. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta timed the race and provided finish line services for the first-year race.

Kelly stays after class for the End-of-School Bash 5K

Ryan KellyProbably no one is as happy at the end of the school year as the teachers, and at Lake Park Elementary's 5K race to celebrate the end of the school year, no one was as fast as Valdosta Middle School teacher Ryan Kelly. Kelly ran 18:09 to win the 3.1-mile race in Lake Park, Georgia, on Friday evening, 15 May 2015. Joseph Jowers of Valdosta, Georgia, was second in 23:09. Stephanie Kompoltowicz of Valdosta was the first female finisher, coming in sixth overall in 31:03. Rob Nixon, also of Valdosta, was the top master runner, placing eighth overall in 31:35.


39 athletes finished the first-year 5K, with another 36 completing a one-mile fun run. Timing and finish line services were provided by A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta, Georgia.

Elam and Page set the pace in Lake Park 4-H 5K

4HAfter three years as a June race, the Lowndes County 4-H club moved their fourth annual "Run 4 tHe Revolution" 5K to 1 March 2014. The change in the calendar seemed to agree with Andrew Elam. The Lowndes High School sophomore won the 3.1-mile race through the streets of Lake Park, Georgia, in a course-record time of 17:41, finishing 40 meters ahead of defending champion Ryan Kelly. Kelly, a cross-country coach at Valdosta Middle School, was runner-up in 17:50.5. Nathan Smith of Valdosta was third in 21:43.


Finishing third overall, Makenzee Page of Ray City, Georgia, was the first female finisher, covering the course in 21:08. Page had finished third in the women's standing in the 2013 Run For The Revolution 5K. Repeating as women's runner-up, Valdosta runner Elizabeth Smith was fifth overall in 22:21. Third for the women was Alison Thornhill of Valdosta, sixth overall in 22:28.


The top master in the race was Valdosta's Rusty Jones; Jones placed seventh overall in 22:31. The first woman master was Sylvia Ellis of Valdosta, 16th overall in 25:07.


43 athletes finished the race. Timing and finish line services were by Valdosta-based A Course/Line, LLC.

Rapid Revolutions in Lake Park for Kelly and Morse

4HRacing in his hometown of Lake Park, Georgia, Ryan Kelly won the Lowndes County 4-H club's third annual Run For The Revolution 5K on Saturday morning, 8 June 2013. Kelly's time for the 3.1-mile race was 19:02. A quarter of a minute behind Kelly, Matthew Baun of Valdosta took the runner-up spot in 19:17. Baun is just one summer away from starting his high school distance-running career. Tyler Thurman, already a high school distance runner at Lowndes High School, was third in 20:26. Tom Phillips placed fourth in 20:49, finishing as the first master runner.


Kelsey Morse of Valdosta's Viking Runners Club seems to be winning just about everything on the roads in and around Valdosta this spring. The Run For The Revolution 5K in the Valdosta suburb of Lake Park was no exception. Morse captured the women's title in the race, running 22:36 and placing ninth overall. Following Morse in the female standings, Elizabeth Smith was the female runner-up, finishing 14th overall in 23:10. Another Viking, Makenzee Page, finished as the third female, 16th overall in 23:33. A few steps behind Page, Valdosta master runner Martha Mazurkiewicz was fourth in the women's standings, finishing 17th in 23:38.


63 athletes completed the race, close to the 71 finishers in the Run For The Revolution 5K in 2012. Another 14 finished a one-mile "Clover Trot" fun run at the event. Timing and finish line services were by Valdosta-based A Course/Line, LLC.
