1971 FHSAA Boys Track and Field Championships

Here's another set of "results from the attic," the 1971 Florida High School Activities Association boys' state track and field championships, held on Friday, 7 May 1971 and Saturday, 8 May 1971 at Showalter Field in Winter Park. This was the first time that the state meet had been held at Showalter, and it would be quite a few years before it returned to the University of Florida in Gainesville. 1971 was also the last year that the school classifications were AA, A, B, and C; the classes became AAAA, AAA, AA, and A the following year.

In 1971 the running events were still all imperial (non-metric) distances. A few events were contested that have since become obsolete, such as the 180-yard low hurdles. The championships had been racially integrated for several years, but there was still no girls' competition. The FHSAA wouldn't allow the girls on the track until later in the 1970s.

The source for these results was the microform edition of the Orlando Sentinel for Saturday, 8 May 1971 and Sunday, 9 May 1971.
