Westwood and Harrell bully the field in Sale City

Camilla's Westwood School cross-country team took a break from running in the grass, trees, and mud of their sport's 2012 season to dominate the Sale City Community Outreach road race in Sale City, Georgia on September 29. Perra Harrell, the 2011 GISA junior-high cross-country state champion, led the Wildcats, finishing as the first female and overall winner in 17:13. Behind Harrell, Wildcat runners took nine of the first ten places in the race. Only the runner-up, Pelham master runner Phillip Morris, broke Westwood's monopoly on the top ten, finishing in 17:37 to take the first master spot.

The race was planned as a 5K, but fell considerably short of the 3.1-mile distance when the entire field took a wrong turn. Everyone ran the same distance, though; somewhat short of three miles. Whatever the length of the run, 61 athletes completed it.
