With All Hallow's Eve approaching, you might have caught a replay on television of the scene where Frankenstein's monster is lurching away from a mob of villagers carrying torches and pitchforks. Or, if you were in Southwood, you might have caught a glimpse of Peter Kaus running away from a mob of monsters, princesses, superheroes, and more conventionally dressed runners. It was the Capital Area YMCA's seventh annual Trick-or-Trot 5K, and Kaus stayed ahead of the sweating mob to win it in 18:04. Leading the pursuit, Amy Hines was the runner-up and first female, putting up an 18:30 for the 3.1-mile course. Florida State University School cross-country runner Anthony Mahoney was third in 18:54, and Eric Smith was the fastest master runner in the race, placing fourth overall in 19:52.
The run started from the Southwood Town Center at 6:30 PM ET, following a one-mile fun run at 6:00. By the end of the first kilometer, Peter Kaus was ahead of the field of nearly 300 runners, with Anthony Mahoney a few seconds back and Amy Hines a step behind Mahoney. The race remained that way through three kilometers, then Kaus started to stretch out his lead, and Hines moved into second. Kaus finished the race just over 100 meters ahead of Hines in 18:04, while Hines recorded a women's course record of 18:30 for the race. Wakulla High cross-country runner Raychel Gray (14th, 22:33) and Michelle Tigue (19th, 23:37) moved up through the field to finish second and third in the women's division.Top 20 Finishers, 2012 YMCA Trick-or-Trot 5K
