Farther is better for Guillen and Thumm at Run For Lawson

Lawson's CourseTallahassee's Run For Lawson was back for a second annual running on Saturday morning, 6 October 2012, and this time there was a new 10K event in addition to the original 5K race. 123 athletes took advantage of the new, longer main event, but the fastest of these was Tallahassee master runner Tony Guillen, who covered the 10K cross-country tour of Holy Comforter School's "Lawson's Course" in 39:32. Guillen finished a convincing 400 meters ahead of the runner up, Geb Kiros; Kiros finished in 41:37. Alison Thumm placed 14th overall in 52:00 to take the women's title in the 10K. Lori Abbey of Capital City Runners was the women's runner up and top woman master, finishing 15th overall in 52:42.

335 athletes preferred the shorter 5K race at the Run For Lawson; among these was the 2011 champion, master runner Gary Droze. The Maclay School cross-country coach notched his second-straight Run For Lawson win with an 18:29--about a minute slower than the previous year, but still fast enough to finish half a kilometer ahead of the runner-up, Duane Evans of Crawfordville. Holy Comforter cross-country runner Molly McCann took 22 seconds off her 2011 time in successfully defending her title as first female in the Lawson 5K, finishing eighth overall in 22:00. McCann enjoyed a bit of home-course advantage in the race; the Holy Comforter cross-country team races regularly on "Lawson's Course," most recently in the Crusader 3K on 20 September 2012.
