In Blakely, Georgia, the James H. Crowdis 5K may not have been the ancient Olympics, but it was held annually 15 times from 1981 to 1995. The Olympics had to wait over a thousand years to be restored, but the Crowdis 5K slumbered for less than two decades. On Labor Day, 3 September 2012, the James H. Crowdis 5K returned to the streets of Blakely. Early County High School senior Jonathon Davison led the 87 runners competing in the resurrected event, scoring a narrow 18:27 to 18:31 win over the runner-up, Donalsonville master runner Myles Gibson. Bainbridge High cross-country runner Tae Ross was third in 19:27.
Debra Hunter of Suwanee, Georgia ran 23:13 to take the women's title, placing 14th overall. Just 50 meters back, Bonifay's Val Lichner was the women's runner-up and top woman master, finishing 15th overall in 23:26. Alford, Florida master runner Jill Wofsey (21st, 23:49) was the third female finisher.
