On Friday evening, 17 May 2013, in Adel, Georgia athletes ran the Daylily City 5K. The year before it had been a Saturday morning race called the Adel Daylily Festival 5K. In 2010 and 2011 it had been the Adelily 5K. And if you go back to 2009, there had been a Blossom Trot 10K.Someday this race will know what it wants to be when it grows up.
In 2013 though it was the Kelly's race. Lake Park, Georgia husband-and-wife Ryan and Heather Kelly grabbed the overall male and female titles that Friday evening in Adel. Ryan Kelly placed first overall in 18:19. Heather Kelly was eighth in 26:03. Ryan Kelly finished about half a kilometer ahead of the runner-up, Adel master runner Sean McConnell. McConnell ran 20:34 for the 3.1 miles, finishing just ahead of the 20:39 clocked by third-place runner Liam Bickerstaff of Hahira, Georgia.
Heather Kelly's 26:03 put her about 300 meters ahead of the second female finisher, Angela Pezent of Adel. Pezent was ninth overall in 27:42.
