Nothing to beach about for either Gibson or Lichner

Another Saturday, another win in Westgate Park for Myles Gibson.


On 16 August 2014, Donalsonville, Georgia, master runner Myles Gibson ran away from a field of of 190 athletes on Dothan's Westgate Park Trail, winning Love 2 Run's 5K Trail Race. Seven days later on 23 August 2014, Gibson was back in Alabama, winning the Dothan Runners 14th annual Life Is A Beach 5K. This time, Gibson ran the 3.1 miles on the Westgate Park Trail in 18:46, winning the race by nearly 700 meters. It was Gibson's third time as a Life Is A Beach 5K champion; he also won the race in  2003 and 2007. Dothan High sophomore cross-country runner Michael Houston took the runner-up spot with a 21:47. Master runner Eric Hudson was third in 22:17, just ahead of Florida master Mark McCarra (4th, 22:23).


Just as Georgia's Myles Gibson was the overall winner, the women's winner was also an out-of-state runner. Bonifay, Florida, master runner Val Lichner topped the women's standings, finishing ninth overall in 24:38. Lakin Turner, a junior-year cross-country runner at Troy's Charles Henderson High, was the women's runner-up, placing 22nd overall in 29:01.


46 athletes finished Dothan Runners' 14th annual Life Is A Beach 5K.
