Gibson and Pinder love to win at Love 2 Run's 5K

The Westgate Park Trail in Dothan, Alabama, has been a busy racing venue during the summer of 2014. On 26 July 2014 93 athletes raced the Tasty Tiger Trot 5K on the trail, and on 23 August 2014 Dothan Runners Club will host their annual Life Is A Beach 5K on the trail. Between the two on the calendar was Love 2 Run's 5K Trail Race. Donalsonville master runner Myles Gibson won that 16 August 2014 event in 18:45, finishing almost 400 meters ahead of the next competitor. Jillian Pinder of Pensacola, Florida, took the women's title, finishing eighth overall in 22:00. 190 athletes completed the 3.1-mile tour of the park.


Gibson had run 18:20 on a slightly different course through Westgate Park three weeks earlier, placing third in the Tasty Tiger Trot 5K. At Love 2 Run's 5K, 18:45 was fast enough for a big win for Gibson. Master runner Dale Thomas of Taylor, Alabama, finished runner-up in 20:19. Mike Houston, Jr., took third in the race with a 21:15. Houston, a sophomore cross-country runner at Dothan High, will be racing in Westgate again on 9 October 2014 when his team hosts the Dothan Tiger Classic on the trail.


Jill Pinder didn't win the women's competition by the kind of margin that Gibson enjoyed in the men's race, but she still finished about 100 meters ahead of the women's runner-up. Pinder was a standout on the Troy University women's soccer team from 2008 to 2010. Behind Pinder, Dothan master runner Missy Sexton edged Heidi Chamula for the second women's spot, 22:29 to 22:30. Sexton and Chamula were 11th and 12th overall. Master runner Margaret Winkler of Blakely, Georgia, was fourth in the women's standings, 18th overall in 23:30.


The first-year race was hosted by Love 2 Run, a technical runnins store in Dothan, Alabama. All proceeds of the race went to the Wounded Warrior Program.
