Andrew McLain scorches a 14:38 at Albany's MSA For Life 5K Blitz

On Saturday morning, 24 October 2015, Andrew McLain of the Atlanta Track Club Elite flashed through the streets of Albany, Georgia, recording a winning 14:38 5K in the inaugural MSA For Life Blitz. Less than 50 meters behind McLain, Ricardo Estremera of Tallahassee's Capital City Runners was second in 14:46. Former Princeton University track star Matt McDonald, another Atlanta Track Club Elite runner, took third in 15:14. The Atlanta Track Club Elite also took the top master runner spot, with Alan Black placing fourth overall in 15:28.


Atlanta Track Club Elite was no less dominant on the women's side. ATC's Lauren Sara sped to the women's title in 16:40, finishing ninth overall. Sallie Post of Atlanta was the women's runner-up, 11th overall in 16:48. ATC Elite's Morgan VanGorder was third in the women's standings, 14th overall in 17:03.


McLain, the race winner, was a NCAA All American distance runner at Lewis University. In September 2015 McLain signed an 18-month professional contract with the Atlanta Track Club Elite. He has relocated from his native Fort Wayne, Indiana, to continue his running career in Atlanta.


$10,000 in prize money was awarded at the 5K, which goes a long way toward explaining the elite runners in the field.


131 athletes finished the MSA For Live 5K Blitz. The title sponsor of the first-year race was Musculoskeletal Associates of Albany, Georgia. Proceeds from the event were donated to Camp Sunshine and Cure Childhood Cancer. Timing was provided by Event Technical Services, Inc., of Sylvester, Georgia.
