Proverbially, March winds bring April showers. But in Madison, Florida the month of April brings the Down Home Days Festival, and with the Festival comes the Colin P. Kelly 5K. On Saturday, 22 April 2017, master runner William Carter of Perry, Florida won the annual race, covering the hilly 3.1-mile course through Madison in 20:48. Madison's Melissa Gamelero took the women's title, placing seventh overall in 24:54.Behind Carter, 2014 Colin Kelly 5K champ Tommy Langford posted a 21:17 to finish runner-up for the second year in a row. Dylan Guilmette was third in 21:27; Guilmette had finished fifth in the 2016 race.
Jennifer Harper was second to Gamalero in the women's standings, placing tenth overall in 26:51. Mary Carter was the top woman master and third female finisher in the 5K, eleventh overall in 27:20.
30 athletes finished the 2017 Colin P. Kelly 5K.
