Chance Roe is tops on the trail at the Horseback Hustle

Want to put some money down on a trail race? Bet on the cross-country runner.


More specifically, at the Horseback Hustle 5K Trail Race, you should have bet on Chance Roe. Roe is currently a cross-country runner at Troy University*, and before that he ran on the Lowndes High cross-country team. That experience was on display at Hidden Creek Farm near Valdosta, Georgia on Saturday morning, 16 June 2018, when Roe won the inaugural Horseback Hustle 5K. Finishing more than half a kilometer ahead of the next runner, Roe covered the 3.1-mile course in 18:54. Bell, Florida master runner Elisabeth Diamond was the first woman in the race, placing sixth overall in 23:19.


Winston Kam of Lake City, Florida was the overall runner-up, posting a 21:15 for the 5K. Hahira, Georgia's Jim O'Connor was the fastest master runner in the race, placing third overall in 21:24.


Kelly Lunceford of Valdosta took second in the women's standings and eighth overall in 23:45. Laura Ashcroft of Valdosta was the third woman and tenth overall in 23:55. Melissa Roe of Valdosta was the first woman master and fourth female finisher, eleventh overall in 24:23.


65 athletes finished the 2018 Horseback Hustle 5K. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta timed the race and provided finish line services.


* After the 2018 spring semester, Chance Roe has transferred to Valdosta State University. He will run for the Blazer cross-country team during the 2018 autumn season.
