Cameron Kaltschnee wins, Emily Golden gets a sixth-straight women's title at Run For Love

Tifton GA Run For Love 5KCameron Kaltschnee was in Tifton, Georgia on Saturday evening, 10 August 2019--the eve of cross-country seasons. For the two years prior, Kaltschnee had spent cross-country season racing for the Beavers of Buena Vista University, a Division III school in Storm Lake, Iowa. Before that, he had worn the colors of Algona High School. In Tifton, though, Kaltschnee was racing on the roads in the 30th annual Run For Love 5K. He won the race by over 400 meters, covering the course around the campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in 18:39. Emily Golden, a senior on the Tift County High cross-country team, won the women's title, placing second overall in 20:11.


Bonaire, Georgia's Jared Hammond was runner-up to Kaltschnee in the men's division, placing third overall in 20:13. Blair Golden, an eighth-grader on the Tift Middle Schools cross-country squad, was third in the men's standings and fourth overall in 20:55. Bret Wagenhorst of Tifton was the fastest master runner in the 5K, the fourth male finisher and fifth overall in 21:21.


On the women's side, Emily Golden's win was her sixth in a row at the Run For Love. Tifton's Penny Peters had her own streak at the Run For Love--she has been the top woman master in the race each year since 2016. In the 2019 Run For Love, Peters took top woman master honors by finishing second in the women's standings and 21st overall in 25:56. Tifton master runner Guna Chee was the third female finisher, 23rd overall in 26:26.


77 athletes finished the 2019 Run For Love 5K, with another 24 completing a one-mile fun run. The races are a fundraiser for the Tift County High and Tift Middle Schools cross-country program.
