Mat Maier and Eva Mustian have wings at the Eagle Invitational

Saturday morning, 17 October 2020, it was cool, clear, and calm in Tallahassee, Florida. It was also two weeks before the city was set to host the the Florida College System Activities Association's state cross-country championship. So you really couldn't ask for a better time to head to the venue for the FCSSAA meet, the Apalachee Regional Park Championship Cross-Country Course, and race a little bit. Fortunately, that was the morning that Tallahassee Community College's third annual Eagle Invitational Cross-Country Meet was scheduled at ARPXC.

TCC's Mat Maier won the men's 8K, the first race of the morning. Maier, a transfer from North Carolina-Pembroke, ran 28:41. The Eagles took the first five places, with Maier followed by Bryce Bass (2nd, 28:51), Will Stanton (3rd, 28:55), Shawn Marcum (4th, 29:43), and Rodolph Adonis (5th, 30:24). That gave TCC fifteen points and the win. No other complete teams were entered in the men's race.

Florida Gateway only brought three women to the Invitational though, so the Wolves lacked a complete team. Chipola Junior College did have a full contingent, though. Chipola put three athletes in the top ten--Montana Arnold was seventh in 25:58, Zy Johnson was eighth in 26:31, and Samantha Whitaker was ninth in 26:43.Sara Padgett (12th, 30:24) and Gianna Mathews (14th, 30:43) finished the scoring for Chipola, giving the Indians fifteen points and first place.

Florida Gateway, Pensacola State, and Tallahassee Community College were each represented in the women's 5K, but didn't have complete squads of five scorers.

The colleges will be back at Apalachee Regional Park on Friday, October 30 for the FCSAA Meet, which will also be the NJCAA Region 8 championship.
