At Maclay, an encore for Noah Deem and a debut for Clifton Lewis

On the north side of Tallahassee, Florida, Maclay School hosted two middle school cross-country meets during the 2020 season--one on 30 September 2020 and the second on 14 October 2020. The Community Leadership Academy boys' team had such a good time at the first one that they made sure to attend the second meet. The outcome was much the same. Community Leadership scored 40 points to place first among four teams, while eighth-graders Noah Deem and Peter Boulware went one-two for CLA, running 10:23 and 11:09. Maclay dominated the girls' competition, scoring a perfect 15 points. Clifton Lewis, competing unattached, was the first girl in the race, running 11:17 for 3200 meters.

Noah Deem

Deem's winning 10:23 was slightly faster than the 10:24 he had posted at the earlier meet on 30 September 2020. Boulware's 11:09 was also close to his prior mark at Maclay, 11:04. Randon Manausa, a Holy Comforter sixth-grader, placed third in 11:15.

Community Leadership eighth-grader followed Manausa across the finish line, fourth in 11:50. Two more young runners scored for Community Leadership, fifth-grader Issac Mapp (14th, 13:27) and sixth-grader Josiah Stake (20th, 13:56). That gave the Lions 40 points and their second win at Maclay this season. Host Maclay was second with 51 points; the first runner for the Marauders was fifth-grader Logan Phipps (6th, 12:16). Holy Comforter scored 60, taking third.

In the girls race, the story of team scoring was--Maclay. The Marauders put eight runners in the top ten, including the first five scoring spots--eighth-grader Lauren Guyer (2nd, 13:20) and Kassidy Moninger (3rd, 13:31), seventh-graders Mae Deison (4th, 13:39) and Josey Becker (5th, 13:46), and eighth-grader Mary Call Miller (6th, 14:00). That gave the girls in blue the lowest possible total, 15 points.
