Leon County Schools' 2020 middle school cross country schedule

Let me be honest. I'm late with this.


In the Pandemic Year of 2020, though, it was never clear that there was going to be a middle school cross-country season for Leon County Schools. The county dumped the original schedule. Many of the usual venues were unavailable. The replacement schedule included a lot of question marks. But eventually the season arrived. The first meet was on October 1, a month later than usual, and there were only five meets, down from six in 2019. But there was going to be a cross-country season.

There are some new venues. The season opener on October 1 is scheduled for one of those new sites, the Alford Greenway. Racing continues on October 5 at another new location, the "North Course" of the Killearn Golf and Country Club. The harriers hit familiar terrain on October 14, heading to Montford Middle School for the Mustang Invitational. There's more new territory on October 23 when Fairview takes the athletes to the Florida State University Rec SportsPlex for the Falcon Invitational. But on October 28 the runners get to return to the Apalachee Regional Park Championship Cross-Country Course for the LCS League Championship.


There's a meet on a Monday, two meetings on a Wednesday, a meet on a Thursday, and a meet on a Friday. The venerable Everhart Invitational--the oldest middle school meet in Florida--is gone this year. The schools only race once at Apalachee Regional Park, not twice as in years past.


But Tallahassee does have a middle school cross-country season. In the Pandemic Year of 2020, count that as a win.
