In the fall of 2022, Canaan Ponce wrapped up his senior year cross-country season at Cook High, while Benjamin DeLoach did the same at Chiles High. In the spring of 2023, Canaan Ponce finished his senior year track season at Cook High, while Benjamin DeLoach did the same at Chiles High. On Saturday morning, 13 May 2023, Ponce and Deloach were racing on the street of Sparks, Georgia in the thirteenth annual Daylily 5K. Ponce, the 2022 Daylily 5K champ, successfully defended his title with a 17:20. DeLoach was runner-up in 17:37. Melissa Lutey of Hahira, Georgia was the first woman in the race, placing 21st overall in 24:47.Another Hahira athlete, Christian Sanchez, ran 18:05 to take third behind Ponce and DeLoach. Hahira's Jim O'Connor was the first master runner in the race, coming in seventh overall in 20:12.
Nashville, Georgia athlete Laura Solomon was the first woman master and second female finisher, 22nd overall in 24:55. Adel master runner Shonna O'Quinn was third in the women's standings and 27th overall in 26:13.
82 athletes finished the 2023 Daylily City 5K. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta, Georgia timed the race and provided finish line services.
