The annual Daylily 5K has shuttled around Cook County, Georgia during its twelve years. Originally run in Reed Bingham State Park, the race subsequently moved to Adel, the Daylily City. For the 14 May 2022 event, the race moved north to the streets of Sparks, Georgia. The change in venue didn't prevent Canaan Poncé and Kylie Downs, two Cook County High cross-country runners, from finding their way to the race. Poncé, a junior, took first overall in 18:08. Downs, also a junior, was the first woman in the race, placing seventeenth overall in 24:16.It was Canaan Poncé's second outing in the Daylily 5K; in 2021 he had finished fifth in the race, running 19:40. Another Daylily 5K veteran, Gabriel Poncé, ran 18:43 in the 2022 race to take the runner-up spot. Gabriel, a Cook County High alum, placed third (19:17) in the 2021 race and fourth (19:39) in 2019. Behind the Poncés, Chad Northcutt of Quitman, Georgia took third in 19:06. Andrew Marzen of Tifton, Georgia was the first master runner in the race, placing sixteenth overall in 23:43.
The 2022 race marked the second year in a row that Kylie Downs had taken the Daylily 5K women's title; the Cook County High harrier had run 23:00 for the win in 2021. Second place in the 2022 women's standings went to Julie Taylor of Adel, fourteenth overall in 24:31. Nashville, Georgia's Laura Solomon was the top woman master and third female finisher, nineteenth overall in 25:12.
57 athletes finished the 2022 Daylily City 5K. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta, Georgia timed the race and provided finish line services.
