What the Donalsonville, Georgia master runner didn't mention was that his 18:17 was the winning time in the race. That mark put him across the finish line of the ninth annual Daylily City 5K nearly 200 meters ahead of the next athlete. Another master runner--Char Davidson of Nashville, Georgia--was the first woman in the race, placing ninth overall in 24:31.
Norman Park, Georgia's Steven Scott Johnson took the runner-up spot with an 18:58. Cody Pezent, a rising senior on the Cook County High cross-country team, was third in 19:58, eight seconds faster than he had run in the 2017 Daylily City 5K. Another Cook County High athlete, incoming frosh Joseph Pezent, placed fourth in 20:58.
Sarah Lashley of Adel was second in the women's standings and twelfth overall in 24:42. Adel master runner Angela Pezent was the third woman and fourteenth overall in 26:06.
47 athletes finished the 2018 Daylily City 5K. A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta, Georgia timed the race and provided finish line services.
