Joshua Grant races to a record at the Resolution Run

New Year 2020Joshua Grant's first race of 2019 was the fourth annual Resolution Run 5K in Albany, Georgia. Grant finished second, just a second behind Dr. Patrick Whitehead, who won in a Resolution Run record of 18:08.


Grant wasn't having any of that at the fifth annual Resolution Run. On Wednesday morning, 1 January 2020, he won the 3.1-mile race by more than 400 meters, setting a new event record of 17:39. Master runner Sara Ostrander was the top woman for the third year in the five-year history of the race, outkicking Jennifer Perkins for the win. Both runners were clocked in 22:24.


Michael Martinez of Tallahassee, Florida was the first master runner in the race, placing second overall in 19:16. Edward Ostrander, a sophomore on the Lee County High cross-country team, took third with a 20:57.


Racing for the first women's spot, Sara Ostrander and Jennifer Perkins finished eighth and ninth overall. Alma Ostrander took third in the women's standings, placing eleventh overall in 23:18. An eighth-grader at Lee County County Middle School East, Ostrander runs on her school's girls' cross-country team.


63 athletes finished the 2020 Resolution Run 5K.

Joshua Grant edges Brian Miller in a record-breaking Harvest Run 10K

Leesburg, Georgia, Harvest RunBack in 2015, Patrick Whitehead won the second annual Harvest Run 10K in Leesburg, Georgia, setting an event record of 36:11. That record stood till Thursday morning, 28 November 2019, when both Joshua Grant and Brian Miller ran about a minute and a half faster in the sixth annual Harvest Run. Grant became the new record holder, winning the 6.2-mile race in 34:36. Miller was just behind in 34:45. Talarie Hayes was the first woman in the race, placing sixth overall in 42:19.


Julio Perez took third in the 10K with a 41:25. Carl Plowden was the fastest master runner in the race, coming in fourth overall in in 41:31.


Melanie Flege was the women's runner-up, and seventeenth overall in 45:49. Jennifer Romano was the first woman master and third female finisher, twentieth overall in 46:48. Master runner Karen McNally was fourth in the women's standings and 25th overall in 48:26.


64 athletes finished the 10K, the most ever in the six-year history of the race.

The Harvest Run has always included a 5K option. 2019 10K runner-up Brian Miller got his start in the shorter race, setting a record in the 3.1-mile event in 2016. In 2019, it was Courtland Buntin who won the Harvest Run 5K, running 18:13. Jessica Sams was the first woman in the 5K, setting a new Harvest Run women's record of 19:10 while placing third overall. Both Buntin and Sams were defending 2018 title in the race.


Russell Coleman was the top master runner in the 5K, finishing runner-up to Buntin in 18:24. There was a close race for third in the men's standings between thirteen-year-old Alex Romano and Edward Ostrander, a sophomore on the Lee County High cross-country team. Romano edged Ostrander, 19:48 to 19:51. The two athletes were fifth and sixth overall.


A few seconds behind Jessica Sams, Mackenzie Taylor was the women's runner-up and fourth overall in 19:15. Brittney Skiles placed third in the women's standings and seventh overall in 20:04. Sara Ostrander took the top woman master's spot, the fifth woman and eleventh overall in 21:05.


126 athletes finished the 2019 Harvest Run 5K.
