Harris and Taylor win Trot; Walker earns Eagle

If you do any trail running, you may very well be in the debt of the Boy Scouts of America. Boy Scouts not only build trails in the woods but also construct trail amenities such as benches and bridges. The mile markers at the Lake Overstreet Trail were the Eagle Scout project of Daniel Smith. So it's not that surprising that Bainbridge scout Trey Walker would choose to put on a road race for his own Eagle Scout project-"Trey's 5K Eagle Trot" on Saturday, 7 August 2010.

Over 100 runners showed up for the event at Bainbridge, Georgia's Earle May Boat Basin on the Flint River. Bainbridge and Grace Christian Academy distance runner Kyle Harris won the race in 18:32. A little over 100 meters back in 19:16, the runner-up and first woman finisher was Kara Taylor, a Florida State University distance runner and Chiles High alumna. At 19:20 Greg Waddell of Bainbridge was third overall and top master runner, just ahead of fourth-place finisher Chase Harris (19:26). The first woman master was Julie Harris of Bainbridge, 15th overall in 25:09.

Proceeds of the race benefit the Bainbridge Humane Society. You wouldn't necessarily expect this to become an annual event once Walker make Eagle Scout, but you never know. Sometimes service gets to be a habit.
