Tallahassee's top 5K road times in 2015 (through January 24)

The Trent Trot on Saturday morning, 24 January 2015 was Tallahassee's second 5K road race of the year on a USATF certified course--an occasion to update the 2015 performance list.


Stephen Cox and his 16:08 from the Bowlegs 5K remains on top of the list. Chris Lake, after winning the Trent Trot 5K in 16:19, debuts right behind Cox at number two. Another new performer on the list is Maclay School cross-country runner Jake Mazziotta at number four with a 17:30. Mazziotta, the only high school athlete in the men's top 25, was runner-up to Lake in the Trent Trot 5K. Michael Martinez was third in the Trent Trot, but didn't improve his standing on the performance list, slipping to number five. Martinez still has the fastest time by a master runner so far this year. Mike Peymann is second in that category; Peymann's 18:54 at Bowlegs ranks him tenth among the 2015 male performers after two races.

Sheryl Rosen still leads the female performers, but she is one of only three survivors from the previous list. Other than Rosen, only Swift Creek Middle School's Alyson Churchill (21st at 21:11) and Nikky Manausa (25th at 21:39) remain in the top 25. The other 22 performers came from the Trent Trot 5K. The women's champion of that race, Seeley Gutierrez, enters this years list in second with her 18:49. Gutierrez was the top performer in the women's 10K in 2014. The next five spots all belong to Florida State University distance runners: Jensen Swopes (3rd, 18:59), Araceli Leon (4th, 19:03), Bella Poole (5th, 19:18), Chantelle Brodie (6th, 19:23), and Teresa Ristow (7th, 19:28). Stephanie Liles-Weyant debuted at number eight on the list, grabbing the top master spot with a 19:32.

It's still early enough in the year that the performance lists should continue to change, although perhaps not as much as the women's list did after the Trent Trot. There are still many races on certified courses left on the schedule. Just this Saturday, 31 January 2015, there are two--the Trailblazer 5K and the Tulip Trot 5K. So in just the next few days a new athlete could break into the rankings, or an athlete already on the list could improve her standing. Other upcoming Tallahassee 5K road races on USATF certified courses include the Run For The Cookies on February 14, the Thomasville Road Baptist Church 5K on March 7, the Shamrock Scurry 5K on March 14, the Springtime 5K on March 28, and the Palace Saloon 5K on April 11--and that doesn't even take us through the spring. Here's to a fast year on the roads.
