Kieszek and Craine take one in Tioga

Saturday afternoon, 12 March 2016, wasn't Drew Kieszek's first time at the Run For Haven. In 2014 he had won the Run For Haven 5K and returned in 2015 to finish fifth in the same race. 2016, though, was Kieszek's first try in the 10K race at the Gainesville, Florida event. It worked out well for him; the Gainesville master runner won the seventh annual Run For Haven 10K in 35:30. And even if the course was 800 meters short as several athletes reported, a win is still a win.


Gainesville master runner Patrick Gallagher took second in 37:03, improving on his fourth-place finish in the 2015 race. Rich Smith, the previous year's sixth place finisher, was third in 38:26.


Andrea Craine won the women's title, placing eighth overall in 43:06. Craine had finished second in the women's standings of the 2014 Run For Haven 10K. Not far behind Craine, Melissa Land was the 2016 Run For Haven 10K women's runner-up, coming in ninth overall in 43:14. Ashley Frankel was the third-place woman, sixteenth overall in 46:01. Sharon Beckwith of Gainesville was the top woman master and fourth female finisher, seventeenth overall in 46:27.


144 athletes finished the race.

Master runner Scott Lafferty was first in the Run for Haven 5K, posting an 18:22. Callie Grace Tucker took the women's title in the 5K, placing second overall in 18:56. Tucker is from Knoxville, Tennessee, where she runs cross country and track as an eighth grader at Sacred Heart Cathedral Middle School.


Adam Helling (3rd, 19:42) and Derek Sain (4th, 20:23) were second and third in the men's standings of the 5K. Melody Diehl (13th, 22:32) was the women's runner-up and Ashley Poser (16th, 23:31) was the third female finisher.


398 athletes finished the seventh annual Run For Haven 5K. Start 2 Finish Race Management of Alachua, Florida provided chip timing for both the 10K and the 5k at the 2016 Run For Haven.
