US Highway 221 is 734 miles long, with a southern terminus in Perry, Florida. During the first 60 miles of driving north from Perry, the road crosses the state line into Georgia and passes through the town of Quitman. I can't say that US 221 is how Perry master runner William Carter got to Quitman, but he was certainly there on Saturday morning, 13 May 2017, winning the second annual Four Season Spring Four Miler, running 29:06. At 30:43, Pavo, Georgia master runner Pollyanna Bass was the women's champ and overall runner-up.Further along US 221 is Valdosta, Georgia. Master runner Reginaldo Zandonade of Valdosta was the second man in the race, placing third overall in 31:47. Sixteen-year-old Jacob Hilliard of Quitman was third in the men's standings and fourth overall in 33:30.
Perry master runner Mary Carter was the second woman and sxith overall in 36:10. Lauren Will of Tallahassee, Florida took third on the women's side, placing eighth overall in 45:11.
The 2017 Four Season Four Miler was the second race in the second year of Quitman's quarterly series of four-mile races. The first race of the 2017 series was the Winter Four Miler on 25 February 2017, and the series continues with the Summer Four Miler on 5 August 2017 and the Fall Four Miler on 18 November 2017. Fifteen athletes finished the Spring Four Miler. Timing and finish line services were provided by A Course/Line, LLC of Valdosta, Georgia.
