Alec Munger, the race winner, is a frosh at Lowndes High in Valdosta, where he races for the school's cross-country team. Taylor Doss of Valdosta placed second behind Munger in 25:06. The next two places belonged to seniors on the Lowndes High cross-country squad--David Shrier was third in 25:28 and Brishen House was fourth in 24:45. Rick Mazurkiewicz was the fastest master runner in the four mile, placing fifth overall in 26:02. Mazurkiewicz had been the overall winner of the fifth annual Run For Missions in 2016.
For Alice Smoot it was the second women's title in the race; the Valdosta master runner had also logged a win at the inaugural Run For Missions in 2012. Sixteen-year-old Emma Campbell of Hahira, Georgia was second in the women's standings and 21st overall in 31:51. Campbell was coming off a 24:58 5K performance seven days earlier in Jacksonville, Florida's Best Damn Race. A few steps behind Campbell, Tifton, Georgia master runner Penny Peters was the third woman and 24th overall in 31:54. Another Tifton master runner, Gina Purvis, was the fourth woman and 27th overall in 33:11.
A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta, Georgia timed the 2018 Run For Missions Four Mile and provided finish-line services.
