Emily Golden wraps up her sixth straight Tift Invitational victory

Tift County High School724 high school and middle school athletes came to the Tifton, Georgia campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Saturday morning, 28 September 2019, to compete in one of the four races of the 18th annual Tift Invitational Cross-Country Meet. The Coffee High Trojans put three runners in the top ten of the high school girls' 5K to take the team title in that event, but it was Tift County senior Emily Golden who took individual honors, winning the race in 19:52. Lowndes High was the top team in the high school boys' 5K for the third time in five years, led by their ace, junior Alec Munger, who won the race in 17:09.


Competition opened at ABAC with the high school girls' 5K. You could argue that Emily Golden only visits Abraham Balwin to win races. Each August starting in 2014, Golden has won the women's title of the Run For Love 5K, held at ABAC. Golden also won her first Tift Invitational race that year, the middle school girls' 3200-meter run. She won that race again as an eighth-grader in 2015, then in 2016 she graduated to winning the high school girls' 5K. At the 2019 Invitational, Golden ran the Tift Invitational for the final time in her high school career, collecting a fourth-straight win in the 5K. Maybe she also drops by to take the SAT or something, but for the past six years her main business at ABAC has been winning.


Coffee High senior Abby Arnett was second in the high school girls' 5K with a 21:15. At 21:24, Brianna Zupko, a Worth County senior, was third in 21:24.


Arnett was just the first of three Coffee High runners in the top ten. The other two were sophomore Brayden Bailey (6th, 22:11) and frosh Kate Merritt (10th, 22:46). They were joined by Coffee scorers Zulmia Tapia (36th, 25:22) and Ellie Perkins (57th, 26:47), giving the Trojans 94 points and first place in a field of fifteen teams.


Lowndes High was a close second with 99 points, led by the seniors Tanija Turner (15th, 23:29) and Alexandra Sayre (16th, 23:33). Lee County placed third in the team standings with 109 points; their top runner was sophomore Emily Phillips, who finished fourth in 21:46.

The high school boys' 5K followed, the largest race of the morning. Alec Munger of Lowndes had placed third in the 2018 Tift Invitational; he improved on that to win the 2019 race in 17:09. Coffee High junior Cameron Watson took second behind Munger with a 17:23, another improvement--Watson had finished fourth in 2018. Westover senior Henry Plowden ran 17:38 for third; Plowden had won the race in 2017.


Munger had the company of three Lowndes teammates in the top ten--frosh Aaron Munger was sixth in 18:10, junior Cody Galloway was eighth in 18:19, and junior Andrew Caruana was ninth in 18:22. Once Lowndes junior Andrew Francis had crossed the finish line 22nd in 19:16, the Vikings had 46 points and the team title.


Starting with junior Seth Tomlinson (14th, 18:57), Lee County bunched five scorers between 18:57 and 19:15 to take second with 83 points. Perry was a close third in the seventeen-team field with 88 points, led by frosh Dylan Coleman (12th, 18:46).

Ava Garrett, a Perry Middle eighth-grader, wen 13:21 to win the middle school girls' 3200 (the distance formerly known as "two miles). Lee County eighth-grader Trace Bridges took second in 13:29, and Berrien County eighth-grader Sadii Davis was third in 13:36. The 2018 Tift Invitational defending champion, Lee County eighth-grader Alma Ostrander, placed fourth in 13:46.


After Bridges and Ostrander, Lee County had scoring performances by eighth-grader Tori Bridges (10th, 14:19), seventh-grader Olivia Vaderwalt (17th, 14:41), and eighth-grader Cadence McClung (18th, 14:45). Once McClung had finished, Lee County had 48 points and the team was taking the trophy back to Leesburg. Ben Hill was second in the fourteen-team field with 105 points; their top runner was eighth-grader Abbie Brown (9th, 14:18).Tift edged Perry for third, 127 to 132, led by the sixteenth-place, 14:39 finish of Tift seventh-grader Grayson Anne Day.

Trinity Dublin Christian seventh-grader Nolan Lane was the only athlete to crack 12:00 in the middle school boys' 3200, winning the race in 11:51. That's not to say that no other runner was close to breaking 12:00; Tift eighth-grader Blair Golden was second in 12:02. Tiftarea` sixth-grader Jude Bailey placed third in 12:21.


Berrien County put two runner in the top ten--sxith-grader Brady Solomon (6th, 12:35) and eighth-grader John Carter (10th, 12:51)--but so did Seminole County--seventh-grader Matthew Smith (8th, 12:47) and sixth-grader Zach King (9th, 12:48)--setting up a fight for the team title. Berrien County brought eighth-graders Carlos Valaquez (16th, 13:11), Zachary Davis (23rd, 13:26), and Oseil Rodriguez (29th, 13:37) to that fight, scoring 76 points and taking placing first among fifteen teams. Seminole County was second with 101 points. Coffee, led by eighth-grader Will Bagwell (7th, 12:40), was third with 125 points.

Dan Hobby wins and Emily Golden makes it five in a row at the Run For Love

Tifton GA Run For Love 5KIn the Southeast United States, you know that when the muscadines ripen its nearly time for cross-country season. You also know that it's time for the Run For Love 5K in Tifton, Georgia. Dan Hobby won the 29th annual Run For Love on Saturday evening, 4 August 2018, outrunning the field with a 20:00 effort. A top ten finisher in 2017, Hobby had never won the race before, but that wasn't the case for the women's champ. Emily Golden took the women's title for the fifth year in a row, placing second overall in 20:10.


Tifton's Bret Wagenhorst repeated as the top master runner in the race, placing third overall and second in the men's standings with a 20:55. Blair Golden, a seventh-grader on the Tift Middle Schools cross-country team, was the third male finisher and fourth overall in 21:48.


Emily Golden was also a Tift Middle Schools athlete back in 2014 when she won her first Run For Love 5K. Just a few weeks after collecting her fifth Run For Love title, Golden will start her junior year cross-country season at Tift County High. She'll be joined on the team by incoming frosh Ainsley Toews. Toews was the women's runner-up at Run For Love, coming in thirteenth overall in 22:48. Tift County High alum Ashlee Golden took third on the women's side and fourteenth overall in 23:17. Ashlee Golden was the first woman at the 2013 Run For Love, the year before Emily Golden started her five-year winning streak.


Penny Peters of Tifton was the first woman master and fourth female finisher, twentieth overall in 25:26.


Because of construction around the Tifton campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, the Run For Love 5K had to be held on a new course in 2018. 77 athletes found their way around the new route to finish the race. The event is a fundraiser for the Tift County High cross-country team. Tift County High's harriers are scheduled to open their season three weeks after the Run For Love, on Saturday morning, 25 August 2018, at the Cougar Cross-Country Challenge in Tallahassee, Florida's Phipps Park.

A win for Watson and a fourth title for Golden at Tifton's Run For Love

2017 Run For LoveTift County cross-country hosted the 28th annual Run For Love 5K at the Tifton, Georgia campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Saturday evening, 5 August 2017. The event isn't quite 30 years old yet, and the top runners in the race are even younger. Nineteen-year-old Caleb Watson of Douglas, Georgia, an Armstrong State University cross-country runner, won the 5K in 18:31. Tift County High cross-country runner Emily Golden took the women's title for the fourth year in a row, placing tenth overall in 21:37. 110 athletes finished the 3.1-mile race.


The Run For Love 5K course starts and finishes on the ABAC campus, with the middle portion of the race taking the runners past the cattle farms next to the college. The cows got to see quite a race in 2017, as Caleb Watson, J. D. Bengston, and Cameron Watson battled up front for the win. It was still close at the finish line, but Caleb Watson, a runner on the Armstrong State University cross-country team, grabbed the win in 18:31. A few steps back, Bengston edged Cameron Watson for second, 18:33 to 18:34. Bengston and Cameron Watson are both frosh cross-country runners, Bengston at Tift County High and Watson at Coffee High. Tifton's Bret Wagenhorst was the fastest master runner in the race, placing seventh overall in 20:56.


Including the women's winner, sophomore Emily Golden, most of the top ten women were Tift County cross-country runners. Second in the women's standings, however, went to a Coffee High harrier, sophomore Abbey Arnett. Arnett was sixteenth overall in 23:21. Tift County senior Ashlee Golden, women's champ of the 2013 Run For Love 5K, was the third woman and eighteenth overall in 23:38. Tift Middle Schools eighth-grader Ainsley Toews was the fourth woman and twentieth overall in 23:52. Penny Peters of Tifton was the top woman master and fifth female finisher, 27th overall in 25:32.

Hammond and Cauthen weren't just crawling at the Watermelon Crawl

In Tifton, Georgia the campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College has been home to several road races. The Run For Love 5K has been their annually since 1990 and the Run For The Nurses each year since 2012. The 14th annual Tift County Invitational Cross Country Meet visited the campus last fall. The ABAC Fitness 5K was used to be run at at the college. And since 2014 the Watermelon Crawl 5K has been a July fixture at ABAC.


Bonaire, Georgia athlete Jared Hammond won the third annual Watermelon Crawl on Saturday morning, 9 July 2016, running the 3.1 miles in an event record 19:35. Matthew Fisher, a recent alumnus of the Tift County High cross country team, was runner-up for the second year in a row, running 19:58. Tim Bell and Bret Wagenhorst were in a close race for the top master runner spot, but Bell narrowly prevailed, taking third overall while Wagenhorst was fourth. Both runners were clocked in 21:10.


Allison Cauthen, another Bonaire runner, took the women's title, placing eighth overall in 24:26. Kaycee Goodman was second in the women's standings and ninth overall in 24:45. Guna Gunawan was the first woman master and third female finisher, placing tenth overall in 25:13. Master runner Gina Purvis was fourth on the women's side and eleventh overall in 25:23.


76 athletes finished Tifton, Georgia's third annual Watermelon Crawl 5K.

Whitehead and Oxenford outrun them all in the Run For The Nurses Half Marathon

Abraham Baldwin Agricultural CollegeProfessor Patrick Whitehead of Darton State College was on the Tifton, Georgia campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Saturday morning, 2 April 2016. It wasn't an academic visit, though. Whitehead was there to race the half marathon at the fifth annual Run For The Nurses. The professor won handily in 1:20:44, finishing 2600 meters ahead of the next runner. Thomaston, Georgia athlete Aprille Oxenford was the women's champion, placing eleventh overall in 1:50:41. 67 athletes finished the 13.1-mile race.


Whitehead's time established a new event record, breaking the old mark of 1:21:06 set by Mark McLeod in 2013. Lorenzo Gomez, Jr., of Omega, Georgia took second in the half marathon, running 1:32:29. Johathan Wegner of Rincon, Georgia was the top master runner in the race, placing third overall in 1:40:32.


Cherie McDonald of Sylvester, Georgia was the top woman master and second female finisher, nineteenth overall in 1:55:17. Hahira, Georgia distance runner Melissa Morris was third in the women's standings and 25th overall in 2:02:25.

The half marathon wasn't contested at the first Run For The Nurses in 2012. The event was introduced in 2013, replacing the 10K. Ever since the inaugural Run For The Nurses, though, the 5K has been on the program. Omega master runner Lorenzo Gomez won the 3.1-mile race in 2014 and 2015, but in 2016 he was unseated by Ian Hawkins. Hawkins, a Tifton runner, won the 2016 5K in 19:22, while Gomez took second in 21:05. Tifton master runner Bret Wagenhorst was third in 21:24.


Fourteen-year-old Kenzie Walls of Bonaire, Georgia took the women's title finishing fifth overall in 22:32. Albany, Georgia's Cathy Jones was the top woman master and the women's runner-up, eighth overall in 26:13. Tifton master runner Gina Purvis was third in the women's standings and tenth overall in 27:17.


62 athletes finished the 5K at the 2016 Run For The Nurses.


The ABAC School of Nursing and Health Sciences hosted the fifth annual Run For The Nurses. Proceeds of the event support the Lisa Purvis Allison “Spirit of Nursing” scholarship.

More wins for Funderburk and Wolfenden at the Tift County Invitational

Tift County High SchoolAbraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia, fields teams in baseball, golf, soccer, softball, and tennis, but not cross country. ABAC would have the makings of a fine cross country team, though, if the school enrolled just a few of the distance runners that visited its campus on Saturday morning, 10 October 2015, for the 14th annual Tift County Blue Devil Cross Country Invitational. Competing in four races, there were close to 500 athletes at the meet, some of the fastest in South Georgia, representing high schools and middle schools.


Among those hundreds of athletes was Colquitt County sophomore Elizabeth Funderburk, the defending champion in the high school girls' 5K. That race was scheduled to open the meet at 8:30 AM. Just like at the Pelham Hornet Invitational in August and the Quail Trail Invitational in September, Funderburk won by a ton. Finishing more than 300 meters ahead of the second runner, Funderburk posted a winning 20:15 in the 3.1-mile race. Lowndes sophomore Makenzee Page was second in 21:44, and Bainbridge sophomore Uriyah Davis placed third in 21:54.


Funderburk was Colquitt County's only finisher in the top ten, though, while the Lee County Trojans had three--sophomore Ramsay Miller (8th, 22:46), junior Ansley Cain (9th, 22:48), and frosh Caroline Taylor (10th, 22:51). Add Lee County's next two scorers, junior Ashley Bennett (15th, 23:34) and frosh Rachel Kiesau (17th, 23:46), and the Trojans had a total of 59 points, earning first place in a field of eleven girls' teams. Colquitt County was second with 87, just ahead of the host from Tift County, third with 91.

Kaleb Wolfenden and Poncherella Leonard have got to be tired of seeing each other, but cross country fans in South Georgia aren't tired of watching them race. The two juniors had met five times this season before the Tift Invitational--at the Cougar Challenge, the Lee County Invitational, the Quail Trail Invitational, the Bearcat Invitational, and the Westover Invitational. Lowndes High's Wolfenden had won three of those meetings, but in the other two races Bainbridge's Leonard had finished ahead of Wolfenden. Both athletes were on the starting line at 9:30 AM at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.


This meeting belonged to Wolfenden, who won the race in 16:17. Leonard was second in 16:26, just ahead of Lowndes senior Chance Roe. Roe was third in 16:27. Lowndes' remaining scorers were junior Daniel Swilley (7th, 17:36), frosh Hayden Bills (10th, 18:17), and senior Dylan Rogers (14th, 18:37), totaling 35 points for the Vikings and giving Lowndes the team title. Bainbridge was second with 83 points. Lee County's top runner Robert Grooms (4th, 16:41) outran Coffee's leader, senior Cody Reid (5th, 17:23), but in the team standings Coffee edged Lee County for third, 104 to 108.

Before the Tift Invitational, Emily Golden had wins at the Hornet Invitational, the Lee County Invitational, the Quail Trail Invitational, the Bearcat Invitational, and the Westover Invitational. After the morning at ABAC, the Tift Middle Schools eighth-grader had added the Tift Invitational middle school girls' title to her collection. Her sixth win this season, Golden ran the 3200-meter race in 12:42. Viking Runners Club seventh-grader Eryn Wilkey was second in 13:07.42, while Worth County eighth-grader Brianna Zupko outkicked Lee County sixth-grader Emily Phillips for third, 13:33.30 to 13:34.00.


Tift put all five of its scorers in the top ten--Golden, eighth-grader Caroline Vickers (5th, 13:44), eighth-grader Rebekah Larger (7th, 13:58), sixth-grader Ainsley Toews (8th, 13:59), and seventh-grader Noelia Sandoval (10th, 14:11). Now, a team can still lose with five runners in the top ten, but it's mathematically impossible to beat a team that has less than 28 points, and Tift had 27, putting them on top of the ten-team field. Lee County was second with 73 points, and Berrien edged the Viking Runners Club for third, 100 to 104.

A week after turning a 19:14 5K on the streets of Hahira, eighth-grader Carson Locke won the boys' 3200 at the Tift Invitational, running 11:32. Lee County runners took the next two places, with eighth-grader Ben Phillips second in 11:48 and sixth-grader Josh Macklin third in 11:50. Berrien County eighth-grader Mitchell Kallam was fourth in 11:51 and Tift seventh-grader Bryce Stephens was fifth in 12:01. Tift had four runners in the top ten, but while the Tift boys waited for a fifth scorer, Lee County put seventh-grader Seth Tomlinson (14th, 12:53), eighth-grader Noah Bain (15th, 12:58), and seventh-grader Will Tomlinson (18th, 13:14) across the finish line. After that, Lee County had 52 points and the team title. Tift was second in the field of ten teams with 60 points. Both Berrien County and Coffee had 80 points, but Berrien was awarded third-place in the team standings on the tiebreaker when their sixth runner, sixth-grader Beau Nix (28th, 13:31) finished ahead of Coffee's sixth runner.

Cannon wins and Golden repeats at Tifton's Run For Love

Tifton GA Run For Love 5KThe 26th annual Tifton, Georgia, Run For Love 5K was a fundraiser for the Tift County High cross country team. Cross country runners were certainly evident at the Saturday evening, 1 August 2015, race, as southwest Georgia harriers captured both the men's and women's titles. Bleckley County High rising junior Dayton Cannon was the overall winner in 17:58, while Tift Middle Schools' eighth grader Emily Golden, the 2014 women's champ, successfully repeated by placing tenth overall in 22:07.


Dayton Cannon wasn't the only cross country runner in the top places of the men's standings. 600 meters behind Cannon, Dillon Kemeness, a senior on the Tift County High cross country squad, finished runner-up in 20:26. Coffee High senior harrier Caleb Watson was third in 20:29, and Tift County High senior Matthew Fisher was fourth in 20:33. Breaking up the procession of high school athletes, at 20:44 Mark Hope was the fifth overall finisher and first master runner.


Behind Golden on the women's side, Allison Couthen was the second female finisher, coming in 15th overall in 23:16. Tift County High 2015 alumna, Sarah Willis, was third in the women's standings, 21st overall in 24:34. The fourth female finisher was the 2013 Run For Love 5K women's champ, Tift County High sophomore Ashlee Golden, 28th overall in 25:33. The fifth woman finisher, Bonnie Evans, edged Penny Peters 25:39 to 25:46 for the top woman master spot. Evans and Peters were 29th and 31st overall.


111 athletes finished the 2015 Run For Love 5K, completing a 3.1-mile tour of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College campus and some of the nearby farmland. Another 32 people finished the earlier one-mile fun run.

Edmondson and Hall lower records at Tifton's Watermelon Crawl

The Watermelon Crawl 5K got a year older on Saturday, 11 July 2015. Specifically, it turned two when it returned to the Tifton, Georgia, campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for a second annual running. The race also got faster--overall winner Tony Edmondson ran 19:54 and trimmed four seconds off of Lorenzo Gomez's 2014 event record, while women's winner Heather Hall clocked 22:51, nearly two minutes under Penny Peters's 2014 standard of 24:47.


Edmondson, a master runner, needed to go under the record to stay ahead of Matthew Fisher, a rising senior on the Tift County High cross country team. Fisher finished a close second in 19:58. Frankie Williams was third in 20:39 and master runner Tim Bell placed fourth in 21:05.


Like Edmondson in the men's race, women's winner Heather Hall was also a master runner. Coming in sixth overall, Waycross athlete Hall finished more than 100 meters ahead ahead of the second woman in the race. Allison Cauthen was runner-up on the women's side, placing eighth overall in 23:22. Ashley Forbes (10th, 24:41) was the third female finisher and master runner Sarah Lukes (15th, 26:55) was the fourth.


65 athlete finished the 3.1-mile race. Proceeds from the Watermelon Crawl go to benefit the Jerry Moore Memorial Scholarship at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Third time is as charming as ever for Honeycutt at the Run For Love

Hunter HoneycuttFinishing more than 700 meters ahead of the next runner, Hunter Honeycutt won the 25th annual Run For Love 5K Road Race in Tifton, Georgia, on Saturday evening, 2 August 2014. The University of Georgia triathlete ran 16:49 to pick up his third Run For Love win in five years. Schoolboy Tommy Dorminy of McDonough, Georgia, ran 19:49 to finish runner-up in the 3.1-mile race around the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College campus. Tifton's Bret Wagenhorst was the fastest master runner in the race, placing third overall in 20:04.


Tift Middle Schools cross-country runner Emily Golden was the first female in the field, finishing 21st overall in 23:03. Another Tift County Middle Schools harrier, Caroline Vickers, was second on the female side, coming in 24th overall in 23:52. The first woman master in the field, Bonnie Evans of Tifton, was third in the female standings, 31st overall in 25:13.


80 athletes finished the 2014 Run For Love 5K. The race was a fundraiser for the cross-country program at Tift County High School. The Tift County Blue Devils start their 2014 cross country season on 23 August 2014 at the fifth annual Mid-State Cross-Country Classic in Perry, Georgia.

Kelly and Luke race for the nurses at ABAC

Ryan Kelly sure does like the half marathon. The Valdosta Middle School cross-country coach from Lake Park, Georgia, has run four of the 13.1-mile races in the last six months, winning three. The most recent was the third annual Run For The Nurses Half Marathon at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia, on Saturday morning, 5 April 2014. Put that one in Kelly's win column; he ran 1:23:37 to finish at the front of a field of 117, finishing over a mile and a half ahead of the next runner. Marty Edge of Soperton was second in 1:35:57, and Jose Trejo of Fitzgerald was third in 1:36:16. The fourth finisher and first master was Marton Kozma of Tifton, Georgia; Kozma covered the distance in 1:37:08.


Melissa Luke of Tifton, Georgia, had won the women's competition at the first Run For The Nurses in 2012. That year, though, the race was only 10K. Luke was back in 2014 to try the longer distance. She was just as successful racing 13.1 miles as she had been two years earlier racing 6.2 miles; Luke finished on top of the women's standings, placing eighth overall in 1:42:07. Brianna Prinsloo of Hahira, Georgia, was runner-up on the women's side, finishing 12th overall in 1:51:07. Kristina Gantt (14th, 1:53:13) was the third woman finisher, and Christal Greene (17th, 1:54:37) the fourth. The top woman master was the fifth female finisher, Tifton's Gina Purvis (18th, 1:54:48).


Proceeds from the Run For The Nurses benefit the Lisa Purvis Allison Spirit of Nursing Scholarship Fund at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Matt Triick and Ashlee Golden tops at ABAC Fitness 5K

Once a regular on the roads of south Georgia, Matt Triick has since moved to Perry, Georgia. But on 26 January 2013 Triick ventured down from middle Georgia to Tifton, where he faced many of the athletes from his old stomping grounds in the fourth annual ABAC Fitness 5K. And a stomping is what Triick dealt to the south Georgia field, winning the 3.1-mile race around Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in 18:05. Ryan Kelly of Lake Park was runner-up in 18:22, while Lowndes High cross-country runner Tyler Thurman took third in 19:57.  For the second time in a row and the third time in four years, Tifton's Bret Wagenhorst was the fastest master runner in the field. This time around, Wagenhorst took top master honors by placing fourth overall in 20:03.


In the female competition, twelve-year-old Ashlee Golden upheld the honor of the region as well that of her hometown of Tifton by winning the women's division with a 22:46, finishing 19th overall. Audrey Williams, and undergraduate at Valdosta State University, was the second female finisher, placing 25th overall in 23:48. Valdosta's Martha Mazurkiewicz (27th, 24:38) was third in the women's division, adding another women's master title to the many she has already collected.


92 athletes finished the 2013 ABAC Fitness 5K.

Avenger and Smoot fittest of the 5K field at ABAC

"It's too cold!" shouted a runner at the post-race awards ceremony for the ABAC Fitness 5K on 22 January 2011.


He should try running at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in August.


Nevertheless, there was what southwest Georgia considers a chill in the air as over 100 athletes navigated the 5K course around the campus of Tifton's Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Valdosta's Masked Avenger won the race going away, triumphing over runner-up Todd Smoot 18:51 to 19:06. Valdosta's Smoot was the fastest master in the race, finishing over a minute ahead of the next master runner, Brian Austin-Hickey (5th, 20:21) of Tallahassee.


Four athletes still fought for the women's title going into the final kilometer, Alice Smoot, Dr. Gretchen Bielmyer, Jane Spetoskey, and Hannah Moorman. Douglas' Moorman was the first to lose contact, but 500 meters out Smoot and Bielmyer still shared the lead, with Spetoskey in close pursuit. Over the last few hundred yards Valdosta's Smoot broke away, going on to win in 22:07. Finishing 13th overall, Smoot was also the top woman master in the race. Bielmyer of Valdosta hung on to the women's runner-up spot, placing 14th overall in 22:15. Leesburg's Spetoskey (15th, 22:29) and Moorman (17th, 22:41) were the third and fourth among the women.


The second annual ABAC Fitness 5K was hosted by the ABAC Fitness and Health Club. Like another Tifton road race, the Run For Love 5K, the Fitness 5K is held on the ABAC campus. However, the course is different. While the Run For Love 5K is entirely paved, the Fitness 5K took the runners on a modified out-and-back course that included blacktop, dirt, and cobble surfaces, as well as more than a few hills.
