Tabut edges Zablocki in Albany Marathon

Albany MarathonAt Gulf Winds Track Club's Tallahassee Marathon on 3 February 2013, the first three runners finished within 26 seconds of each other. Chris Zablocki of Essex, Connecticut came out on top of that struggle. Four weeks later Zablocki was involved in another close marathon in Albany, Georgia, where only 22 seconds separated the top two athletes. This time, though, the Connecticut marathoner was on the wrong side of the photo finish, as Edward Tabut of Coon Rapids, Minnesota won the seventh annual Albany Marathon in 2:21:04. Zablocki finished runner-up in 2:21:26. Another Coon Rapids runner, Robert Wambua, took third with a 2:24:13.

Taylor Evans saw to it that there was no similar drama in the women's competition. The Savannah, Georgia runner finished more than ten minutes before the next woman, recording a winning 2:58:14 and placing 13th overall. Second place in the women's division went to Peachtree City's Deanna McCurdy, who finished 34th overall in 3:08:17.

569 athletes finished the 2013 Albany marathon.
