Elementary schools in the area are getting into the road race business. A little over a week ago, Tallahassee's Roberts Elementary School hosted the
Red Fox Trot 5K. More than a few Valdosta, Georgia grade schools also seem to be getting in on the act--St. Johns School, Sallas Mahone Elementary, Dewar Elementary, Westside Elementary, and others. Including, on Saturday morning, 5 February 2011, the Pine Grove Elementary Run For Your Life 5K.
Not quite four weeks after running the
Disney Marathon in 3:30:43, Valdosta's David Burnett ran away from the field of 100 runners at the Pine Grove 5K. Burnett's 21:18 put him over 300 meters ahead of the next runner in, Dr. Gretchen Bielmyer, the first female finisher at 22:38. Two weeks earlier, Bielmyer had run 22:15 at the
ABAC Fitness 5K. John Gilbert of Valdosta was the first master runner, placing third overall in 22:51. Hahira's Angela Snyder was the fastest female master in the race, finishing 20th overall in 26:44.
