Cruz and Marto headline the Moultrie YMCA's 11th annual Race Of The South 10K

The YOn Saturday morning, 21 September 2013, Moultrie, Georgia, runner Paulino Cruz ran 40:45 for 6.2 miles on the streets of his hometown to win the Race Of The South 10K. Cruz crossed the finish line just 12 seconds ahead master runner Sean McConnell of Adel, Georgia; McConnell was second in 40:57. Noah Harrison, a member of the cross-country team at Colquitt County High School,  finished third in 41:56. The first female finisher in the 10K was master runner Nancy Marto of Lake City, Florida. Marto placed tenth overall in 50:00. There were 50 finishers in the 10K.

The Race Of The South had been an annual fixture on the south Georgia racing scene from 1980 to 1996, but the event vanished from 1997 to 2002. The race was taken up again in 2003 by the Moultrie YMCA, and one of the changes that the "Y" made was the addition of a 5K. This was the 11th year of the revival, and Colquitt County HS senior Steven Johnson ran in the 11th annual Race Of The South 5K. Johnson had tried his hand in the 10K at the 2010 Race Of The South, coming in fourth in 42:48. In 2011 he dropped to the 5K and came away with a win, running 18:59. At the 2012 Race Of The South, though, Johnson was foiled in his attempt to defend his title. That year Colquitt County High's Jorge Villalobos ran 17:22 for the win, while Johnson finished sixth in 19:44. Nevertheless, Johnson was back in 2013, and he was first to the finish line of the 5K with a winning 19:07. Luke Brinson, another Colquitt County HS cross-country runner, was second in 19:23. Ten-year-old Baylen Young was third in 19:28. The first female finisher in the 5K was Tiffany Smith, a sophomore cross-country runner at Colquitt County High. Smith came in 15th overall in 25:19. The second female finisher and first female master was Moultrie athlete Shannon Hall, 20th overall in 26:31. 78 athletes finished the 5K.

Prior to its revival in 2003, the Race of the South was held annually from 1980
to 1996.

I'd deeply appreciate results from any of the years missing from the above table!
