Seymour and Christoph trot to new records at Trot With S.W.A.T.

Three athletes on the Fort Rucker Flyers Army Ten-Miler team, David Seymour, Mark Freeman, and Matt Udermann, swept the first three places at the seventh annual Trot With S.W.A.T. 10K in Dothan, Alabama on Saturday morning, 21 September 2013. Seymour, the winner, covered the 6.2-miles in a course-record time of 36:03, while Freeman and Udermann ran 38:26 and 39:29. The first female finisher was Ali Christoph, who placed sixth overall in 41:34, setting a new course record for women and finishing close to a mile ahead of the runner-up, Lauren Connelly (15th, 48:54). At 47:26 Dale Nash was the fastest master runner in the race, coming in 11th overall. Nina Korges was the first master woman finisher, 25th in 52:44. 59 athletes completed the 10K race, which started and finished near Poplar Head Park, close to downtown Dothan.


Since 2009 the Trot With S.W.A.T. has also offered a 5K option for athlete who find 10K is just too much of a good thing. John Halton won the 3.1-mile race in 2013, running 20:29. Dana Cody was the first female, placing third overall in 21:18. 93 participants finished the 5K.


The Trot With S.W.A.T. was hosted by the Dothan, Alabama, police department, those folks who are out in the street during the Hog Wild 15K and other Dothan road races, making sure that no runner gets flattened by a truck. Proceed from the race go to support Dothan Police SWAT unit training, equipment and events.
