In 2015 Darton State College professor Patrick Whitehead started the month of May with a win at the Camilla, Georgia, Gnat Days 5K, just south of his home in Albany. Whitehead finished the racing month just north of Albany in Cordele, Georgia, with a win at the Loop-the-Lake 5K on Saturday morning, 30 May 2015. His winning time for the tour of Georgia Veterans State Park was 16:04. In the same race Brittney Skiles, the cross country coach at Georgia Southwestern University in Americus, won her third Loop-the-Lake women's title, placing fifth overall in 18:24. 273 athletes finished the race.Whitehead finished well over 200 meters ahead of the next finisher, Wright Calhoun. Calhoun, a rising senior at Southland Academy in Americus, ran 16:53. Robert Bledsoe, a cross-country runner for South Georgia College, was third in 17:24. Arnoldo DeJesus of Albany's Good Life City Runners took fourth in 17:59. Dennis Moore was the top master runner in the race, placing sixth overall in 19:08.
In 2008 Brittney Skiles became the first woman to break 20:00 in the Loop-the-Lake race, running 19:45. In 2014 she lowered that record to 19:23. But in 2015 Skiles became the only woman to ever go sub-19:00 in the Lake Blackshear classic, going 18:24. Katherine McGarr, a Crisp Academy graduating senior and the 2015 GISA State Cross Country champion, was second in the women's standings, placing 16th overall in 20:59. Allison Cauthen was the third female finisher, 21st overall in 22:05, and Southland Academy distance runner Ryleigh Bell was the fourth, 23rd overall in 22:07. Americus, Georgia, athlete Charlene Pennymon was the top woman master and the fifth female finisher, coming in 29th overall in 22:37.
Proceeds from the race went to benefit Graceway Recovery Residence. The race was timed by OnTime Results of Atlanta, Georgia.
