Tallahassee's top 5K road times in 2015 (through May 30)

It has been a busy racing schedule in Tallahassee since the previous update of the lists of top 5K road times in 2015. Since I published those lists, there have been four 5K races on USATF certified courses in town: the FSU Autism 5K on 18 April 2015, the Nene Fest 5K on 9 May 2015, the TMH For Life Challenge May 5K also on 9 May 2015, and the T-PAL 5K on 30 May 2015. Things could have been even busier, but the Refuge House SAAM 5K, scheduled for 19 April 2015, was canceled due to severe weather. That was still four chances in six weeks to run a fast 5K on a certified course.

In spite of all the racing, the lists have hardly changed at all since the Palace Saloon 5K. On the men's side, Chris Lake became the fourth runner in town to go sub-16:00 this year when he won the second annual Nene Fest 5K in 15:49. Running practically alone, Lake lowered his 2015 best by half a minute. Even so, Lake was fourth on the men's list before Nene Fest, and he's still fourth on the list. No one else moved on the list, either. Tyler Udland still leads the city's 5K performers with his 15:29 winning time at the Palace Saloon 5K.

The women's list was even more static. Katie Sherron won the T-PAL 5K with a 19:21, and Sheryl Rosen went 19:51 in the same race. But Sherron had already run 18:40 at the Palace Saloon 5K putting her fourth on the women's list, and Rosen had gone 18:04 at the Palace, Tallahassee's second fastest women's time so far this year. Those two times are the only new performances you'll see on the women's list. Lauren Poulos remains the 2015 women's leader on the strength of her 17:54 win at the Palace Saloon 5K.

There will be change before the end of 2015, though. The 13 June 2015 Run Around The Lakes 5K has been canceled, but there are still some great races on certified courses coming up; races that could produce fast times. For instance, the Firecracker 5K on 4 July 2015, the Sickle Cell 5K on 12 September 2015, the Tallahassee Women's Distance Festival 5K on 19 September 2015, the Race For Readiness on 17 October 2015, the Deer Run 5K on 7 Novemeber 2015, and the Tallahassee Turkey Trot 5K on 26 November 2015. The courses for the TMH For Life Challenge 5K races on 1 August 2015 and 24 October 2015 will also likely be USATF certified. So, it's too early to wait till next year. More than six months and a lot of racing are left in 2015.
