St Pat's Day wins for Dustin Reynolds and Anna James at the Heritage Run

By 17 March 2018, spring break at Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee was almost over. Classes would resume on Monday, 19 March 2018. That meant that Dustin Reynolds, a native of Brinson, Georgia, would soon be heading back to school and his duties as a frosh distance runner on the Bryan Lions track team. But that Saturday morning, before returning to Tennessee, Reynolds was on the streets of Thomasville, Georgia, winning the Heritage Run 5K in 18:20. He finished the five-kilometer race with a lead of nearly half a kilometer on the next runner. Thomasville's Anna James took time out from her frosh year track season at Thomas County Central High to win the Heritage Run women's title, placing fourth overall in 21:38.


Nolan Barnes, an eighth-grader on the Thomasvillle's MacIntyre Park Middle School cross-country team, was second overall in 20:15. Erik Anderson of the Tallahassee, Florida Gulf Winds Track Club took third in 20:28. Stephen Sullivan of Thomasville was the first master runner in the race and the fourth male finisher, placing fifth overall in 22:30.


Dominique Messerschmidt was second in the women's standings and sixth overall in 24:01. Sheila Roberts was the top woman master and the third female finisher, ninth overall in 25:20. Maggie May, a frosh on the cross-country team at Thomasville High, was fourth in the women's division and fifteenth overall in 27:29.


174 athletes finished the 2018 Heritage Run 5K. The Thomasville YMCA hosted the race.
