The Thomasville High Bulldog cross-country team took a break from the fields and forests on Saturday morning, 7 September 2019, to run a road race--the fourth annual Tutus & Tennis Shoes 5K in Thomsaville, Georgia. Bulldog junior Lawson Brinkley won the 3.1-mile race by close to 300 meters, running 20:06. Hope Eidson was the first woman in the race, coming in seventh overall in 24:01.Chris Holt of Thomasville finished runner-up to Brinkley at 21:23. Tallahasse, Florida athlete Michael Kennett was the first master runner in the race, placing third overall in 22:12--just a few steps ahead of twelve-year-old Chris O'Neal, who was fourth in 22:15.
Tiffany Nunnally was the first woman master and second female finisher, ninth overall in 24:34. Nunnally has also been the women's runner-up in the 2016 race, the very first Tutus & Tennis Shoes 5K. Hannah Gilliland squeaked by Melissa Bruhn and Mary Sue Thompson to take the third spot in the women's standings, all three athletes clocked in 26:21. Gilliland, Bruhn, and Thompson were sixteenth, seventeenth, and eighteenth overall.
After two years of offering both a 10K and a 5K, the 2019 Tutus & Tennis Shoes only included a 5K option. 111 athletes finished the race, which was timed by Miles & Minutes, LLC of Tallahassee.
