Corey Osgood and Alison Thumm roll at the Race For Trace

Saturday morning, 7 September 2019, wasn't the first time athletes had assembled at Roberts Elementary School for a race. It wasn't even the first time in 2019. Back in January, the Trent Trot 10K and 5K had started and finished at the Tallahassee, Florida school. But it was the first time that the Race For Trace 5K had been run at Roberts Elementary or anywhere else. Corey Osgood won the new race, edging master runner Michael Martinez for first, 18:42 to 18:48. Master runner Alison Thumm was the first woman in the race, placing seventh overall in 21:28.

The course for the Race For Trace was the same as that used for the Trent Trot 5K, so more than a few athletes in the field were already familiar with the route. That included Corey Osgood, who had won the Trent Trot in 2018, running 18:51. Michael Martinez had run the 2019 Trent Trot 5K and placed second in 19:01. Those races had been in cool January air, but in spite of the September heat, both Osgood and Martinez had run faster at the Race For Trace--Osgood posting a winning 18:42 and Martinez 18:48. Master runner Dan Koeppel, who was seeing the course for the first time, took third in 20:00.

Master runner Shannon Colavecchio was the second woman in the race, placing and eighteenth overall in 22:58. Another Tallahassee master runner, Anna Koeppel, was the third woman and 21st overall in 23:09. Twelve-year-old Madison Sims, a sixth-grader on the Fort Braden School cross-country team, took fourth in the women's standings and 23rd overall in 23:19.

436 athletes finished the 2019 Race For Trace 5K. Miles and Minutes, LLC, of Tallahassee timed the race.
