Six days earlier Bartlow had won the 2A District 1 girls' 5K by more than 200 meters. She was 40 meters ahead when she crossed the finish line at Alligator Lake, winning the Region 1 race in 18:28. Bolles seventh-grader Sofie Stam, the 2A District 2 champion, finished runner-up to Bartlow in 18:44. Bishop Kenny junior Teresa Massa edged Bolles junior Estella Bruneau for third, 18:44 to 18:36.
The next three places belonged to the Bishop Kenny girls, with senior Emily Wheldon fifth in 19:11, junior Stephanie Grden sixth in 19:12, and sophomore Alexis Wilson seventh in 19:19. Bishop Kenny's fifth scorer was senior Davis Johnson, ninth in 19:31, giving the Jacksonville team 30 points and their first Region 1 title since 2009.
In the years since that 2009 Bishop Kenny win, 2010 to 2022, the Bolles girls had been the Region 1 champs thirteen straight times. That streak ended at the 2023 meet, with the Bulldogs placing runner-up with 49 points. Jacksonville Episcopal was third with 94 points, led by eighth-grader Stella Krueger, thirteenth in 19:42. Also making the top eight and qualifying for the State Championship were Fernandina Beach (4th, 130 points), Wakulla (5th, 201 points), Florida State University School (6th, 202 points), Wolfson (7th, 218 points), and North Bay Haven (8th, 239 points).

As with the girls' race, the boys' 5K was a showdown between the best of 2A District 1 and the best of 2A District 2. Christopher Joost of Bolles made the argument for the superiority of his District; the District 2 champion won the 2A Region 1 race in 15:57, finishing over a hundred meters ahead of the Distict 2 champ, Henry Lewis of Wakulla. Lewis, a sophomore, was runner-up in 16:18. A few steps behind Lewis, Florida State senior Xavier England (3rd, 16:22) outkicked Bishop Kenny senior Alejandro Vinas (4th, 16:22) and Bishop Kenny junior Juan Pablo Castillo-Zima (5th, 16:23).
Bishop Kenny put a third runner in the top ten as well; junior Jack Liuzzo was eighth in 16:30. Juniors Emory Dilts (13th, 16:55) and William Johnson (18th, 17:16) finished the scoring for Bishop Kenny, giving the Crusades boys a narrow 48 to 50 win over Bolles, the defending team champs in Region 1. The Bishop Kenny win ended an eight-year reign by the Bolles boys as Region 1 champs. Before that, from 2001 to 2014, the Bishop Kenny boys had won fourteen straight Region 1 titles.
Episcopal took third in the field of sixteen, scoring 138 points behind their top runner, junior Jake Officer, tenth in 16:33.
