Ultra-runners Grayson Williams and Maureen Abeita get ultra wins at the In The Woods 50K

In obsolete metric units, 50 kilometers is 5 myriameters or half a hectokilometer. In athletics, it's almost eight kilometers farther than a marathon. 50 kilometers was also the distance of the third annual 30A In The Woods 50K, contested in Florida's Point Washington State Forest on Saturday, 27 January 2024. Destin, Florida athlete Grayson Williams won the race for the second year in a row, running 3:47:52. Another Destin runner, Maureen Abeita, was the first woman in the race, coming in fourteenth overall in 5:06:25.


Grayson Williams' winning 3:47:52 made him the first to break four hours in the In The Woods 50K, but before the morning was over he had company in the sub-4:00 club. Pensacola, Florida's Logan Roberts also went under four hours, placing runner up in 3:51:58. Steven Cornelius of Valparaiso, Florida--the first master runner in the race--likewise finished in less than four hours, coming in third overall in 3:53:19.


Holly Grigsby-Smith of Trussville, Alabama took second in the women's division, running 5:31:16 for 24th overall. Another Alabama runner, Newville's Brittany Lapointe, was the third woman and 25th overall in 5:39:30. Debra McKenzie of Niceville, Florida was the first woman master and fourth female finisher, 29th overall in 5:45:14.


80 athletes finished the 2024 30A In The Woods 50K.
