When Jackie and Jerry McDaniel moved the Gulf Winds Track Club 30K north of Tallahassee, Florida to the Old Centerville Road course in 2006, they added a 15K race to the program. From 2006 to 2024, the junior race had been run on the same out-and-back course on Old Centerville Road, with USATF certification numbers FL06014DL and FL16080TY. During those nineteen years, the 30K remained the main event, but quite a few good athletes ran the 15K, posting some good performances over the years.

Patrick Koon |
Many prominent high school athletes have shone in the GWTC 15K, most recently Leon senior
Patrick Koon. A three-time high school cross-country state champion, Koon set the course record in the 2024 race, running 47:55. Koon broke the previous mark of 47:59, set by
Chris Haynes in 2023. Before Haynes, the record had been Koon's 48:42 from 2022. That 2022 time had replaced the 2015 course record of 50:11 belonging to
Sukhi Khosla, a two-time high school cross-country state champion.
Jay Wallace owns the fastest GWTC 15K performance by a master runner, a 54:55 he ran in 2011.
Sheryl Rosen's 58:37 has stood as the women's course record since she ran it in 2015, replacing
Lisa Johnson's 2011 mark of 59:55. Sarah Docter-Williams won the women's title at the first Gulf Winds Track Club 15K in 2006, running 60:30. As of 2024, Docter-Williams' time is still the best by a woman master on the Centerville Road 15K course.
