Trent Parsons and Madeline Frank triumph at the Trent

2025 Trent 5K logo"Cancelled due to ice!" is not a message you expect to see regarding a road race in Tallahassee, Florida. Nevertheless, that was the word on the 2025 Trent 10K, courtesy of Winter Storm Enzo. But the streets weren't icy enough to stop either the Trent 5K race or the Trent one-mile fun run. Those events went ahead as planned on Saturday morning, 25 January 2025. Trent Parsons won the 5K by sixty meters, running 17:27. Madeline Frank was the first woman in that 3.1-mile race, coming in sixth overall in 18:04.

Aside from sharing a name with the race, Trent Parsons has a long connection with the Trent. A sophomore-year cross-country runner at Lincoln High, Parsons has run the Trent multiple times going back to 2019, running the 5K twice and the 10K twice. 2025 was his first Trent win.

In order to get that win, Parsons had to outrun Tallahassee master runner Leonardo Canete, the 2023 Trent 10K champ. Canete finished the 2025 Trent 5K in 17:39, coming in runner-up to Parsons. A few steps behind Canete, another Lincoln High cross-country runner, frosh Stokes Bryan, edged out Kyle Olson for third, 17:43 to 17:45.

The 5K may have been Madeline Frank's first Trent win, but it wasn't her first win of the year. Just a week earlier, Frank had been the top woman in the Gulf Winds Track Club 15K, somewhat further out of Tallahassee on Centerville Road than Roberts Elementary School, the site of the Trent.

Finishing runner-up to Frank in the women's standings, Nancy Moody was the first woman master in the race, placing eleventh overall in 21:31. Master runner Kim Katzenbach was the third woman and sixteenth overall in 23:29.

156 athletes finished the 2025 Trent 5K.
