LaBossiere schools the field at the ARM 5K

Florida A & M University philosophy professor Dr. Michael LaBossiere went to the front of the race almost from the word "Go!" and was never challenged on his way to 20:59 victory at the second annual A.R.M. 5K. The race was staged by the Florida State University chapter of GlobeMed on the FSU campus on Saturday morning, 20 November 2010. LaBossiere, who was also the fastest master runner in the race, finished about 150 meters ahead of the runner-up, Jonathan Nash, who completed the course in 21:38. The women's competition went back and forth during the race, but at the line Devin Joseph prevailed narrowly over Victoria Carasa to take the title, 22:48 to 22:51. Joseph and Carasa placed third and fifth overall respectively.

The race started at the top of Gallows Hill in front of the Westcott Building, proceeded west to the University Center and the low ground along Budweiser Creek, then climbed back uphill to finish again in front of Westcott. Thus each of the runners established a quick tempo on the early downhill part of the race, and then got smacked with an upslope on which it was impossible to maintain that tempo. In other words, it was one of those "challenging" courses that everyone likes to talk about. The route was marked exclusively with sidewalk chalk. GlobeMed at Florida State University donates all of the proceeds of the race to their charity, Alternative for Rural Movement.

  1. Nicely done, Herb! I love "...smacked with an upslope..."

I can't believe the only person I know in this race is Mike...oh, maybe that's because I'm old enough to be everyone else's mother!?!

Thanks for sharing...missed seeing you at Bradley's. The sausage dogs were delicious!
