Ryan Kelly and Alice Smoot winners at Valdosta's NBC 5K

Winning the 3.1-mile race by more than half a mile, Valdosta Middle School cross-country coach Ryan Kelly was the fastest of 113 finishers at the Valdosta Northside Baptist Church's Miles For Missions 5K on Saturday morning, 30 November 2013. Kelly--from Lake Park, Georgia--covered the 5K road course in 17:48. Jack Green of Valdosta, Georgia, finished runner-up in 21:52. Nickolas Lutsko of Princeton, New Jersey, took third in 22:04, and Valdosta's Jacob Perry was fourth in 22:28. The fastest male master in the field was Valdosta's Arnie Epperson, sixth overall in 22:53.


The fastest master runner in the race, however, was Valdosta's Alice Smoot, the first woman across the finish line. Smoot was fifth overall in 22:49. Jennifer Hummel of Dasher, Georgia, was the second woman finisher, ninth overall in 23:59. Valdosta's Sarah Beck (10th, 24:15) was the fourth woman, and Valdosta master runner Martha Mazurkiewicz (15th, 24:35) was the fifth.


Proceeds from the race were earmarked for the benefit of Lottie Moon International Missions. Timing and finish line services were provided by A Course/Line, LLC, of Valdosta, Georgia.
