Veteran harriers Fox and Matsunaga win the Pilgrim Chase 5K

Austin Fox, an alumnus of the Spring Hill College cross country team, won the Dothan Runners' 2013 Pilgrim Chase 5K Trail Run in Westgate Park on Saturday morning, 30 November 2013. The Dothan athlete completed the 3.1-mile course on the Larry and Ronna Dykes Trail in 17:14. Another son of Dothan, Troy University freshman cross-country runner Sean Kent, was second in the race, running 17:49. Adam McPherson of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, took third in 19:19.


Three weeks before the Pilgrim Chase, In-Mi Matsunaga had run at the NCAA-D2 Southeast Regional, her last cross-country race as a University of Montevallo Falcon. That didn't mean that Matsunaga couldn't continue to run cross-country outside of college, though. At Westgate Park she ran 19:27 in the Pilgrim Chase, placing fourth overall and first in the women's standings. Brooke Houppert of Daleville, Alabama, was the second female finisher, 12th overall in 21:52.


Theron Carter of Brundidge, Alabama, was the top master in the race, coming in fifth overall in 19:46. Bonifay, Florida, runner Val Lichner was the first woman master, the third woman finisher and 18th overall in 23:44.


96 athletes completed the 2013 Pilgrim Chase 5K Trail Run.
