Someday Desoto Trail Elementary School will host their Trailblazer 5K road race, and it will not rain. So far, though, in both years that the annual event has been held the competitors have had wet roads to run on. Despite the weather, 100 athletes finished the Trailblazer 5K on Saturday morning, 11 January 2014. The fastest was Tallahassee master runner Thomas Konrad, who covered the 3.1 miles of rolling hills in 20:05, winning the race by nearly 200 meters. Chris O'Kelley and master runner Travis Miller dueled for the runner-up spot, with O'Kelley prevailing 20:45 to 20:48. O'Kelly had finished tenth in the inaugural Trailblazer 5K in 2013.Another athlete returning from the 2013 Trailblazer was Tallahassee master runner Debbie Peters. After running 25:38 and finishing fourth in the women's standings in 2013, Peters was back in 2014, posting a 25:17. The faster time was good enough to give Peter the women's title in the second annual race. Nine-year-old Kate Krizner was second in the women's division, finishing 16th overall in 25:39. Emily Webster was third on the women's side, 19th overall in 27:30.
