Tallahassee's top 5K road times in 2014 (through January 18)

2014 is a new year, thus time for a new list of Tallahassee's top 5K road times of the year. It's still January, and there has only been one 5K race on a USATF certified course so far, Gulf Winds Track Club's 30th annnual Bowlegs 5K on 18 January 2014. So it may seem early to be doing rankings. But I flatter myself that these lists could be motivational, so let's not catch anyone by surprise. There will be rankings this year. Racing has started, so the rankings have started. I do draw the line at "pre-season" rankings, though. Let's leave that pre-season stuff to the people who play with balls.


After a win at Bowlegs, Stanley Linton leads local 5K performers with a 15:46. That already equals his best 2013 performance, a 15:46 win at the Palace Saloon 5K that ranked second for the year. The only faster time last year was Kevin Sullivan's city-leading 15:28, run at Gulf Winds Track Club's Tallahassee Turkey Trot 5K. On the women's side Lisa Johnson tops the list with an opening performance of 19:18, which was good enough for the women's title and 17th place overall at the Bowlegs 5K.


Over 11 months are left in Tallahassee's racing year, during which you can expect a lot of changes on the list. These could come as early as 25 January 2014 at the fifth annual Red Fox Trot 5K, contested on USATF #FL11132EBM. After that the 21st annual Run For The Cookies 5K on USATF #FL14006EBM is scheduled for 8 February 2014, and on 1 March 2014 the Thomasville Road Baptist Church 5K will be on USATF #FL10021EBM. We'll see what the rankings look like then.
