Life Is [still] A Beach for Gibson and Floyd

Fall is cross country season, so during the fall you're likely to find high school cross country runners racing on the Westgate Park Trail in Dothan, Alabama. Before summer gives way to autumn, though, the Dothan Runners Club holds one more summer race on the trail--the Life Is A Beach 5K.


Donalsonville, Georgia, master runner Myles Gibson is familiar with the Westgate Park trail in general and the Life Is A Beach 5K in particular. In addition to his other wins on the trail, Gibson won the Life Is A Beach race in 2003, 2007, and 2014. On Saturday morning, 22 August 2015, he won the race for a fourth time, running 18:40. Michael Bond was second in 19:34, and Jeremy Andrews third in 20:52.


Kimberly Floyd doesn't have quite as much experience on the Westgate Trail as Myles Gibson, but she did win the women's title at the Firecracker 5K on the trail on 4 July 2015. Floyd got her first Life Is A Beach 5K women's win in 2015 as well, running 23:49 and placing twelfth overall. Cassie Logan was the second female finisher and the top woman master, coming in 22nd overall in 27:42.


54 athletes finished the 15th annual Life Is A Beach 5K.
