Florida State University has released the Seminoles' 2017 cross-country schedule.You'll only find one home meet slated, the Florida State Cross-Country Invitational on Friday, 6 October 2017. In an era where no one runs dual meets anymore, you typically don't expect to see teams racing at home more than once. Florida State's home course, however, is the Apalachee Regional Park Championship Cross Country Course, which has hosted the Atlantic Coast Conference meet and, more frequently, the NCAA South Region. However, this year the Seminoles will have to travel to Louisville, Kentucky for the Conference meet and to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for Regional competition. At the ACC Meet, the athletes will get to preview the course in E. P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, the site of the NCAA National Championships. To prepare for the road to Nationals, some of the Seminoles will run the Alabama Crimson Classic on 13 October 2017, previewing the course for the NCAA South Region on 10 November 2017.
With the sole exception of the Mountain Dew Invitational on Saturday, 29 September 2017, each of the regular season meets is on a Friday. This seems unusual to an old harrier who remembers almost nothing but Saturday races. Another sign of the times is that the men never run the championship distance of ten kilometers until the South Region meet. All the earlier races are eight kilometers, except for the opener, the Covered Bridge Open, with is 6400 meters. The women's races on the other hand are almost evenly distributed between championship-length six-kilometer events and shorter five-kilometer events.
