Henry Plowden wrapped up his cross-country season with Westover High School at the GHSA State Championship on 3 November 2018, finishing ninth in the 4A boys 5K. Alli Hay finished her cross-country season with Columbus State University at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional on 17 November 2018, finishing 43rd in the women's 6K. Cross-country season may have been over, but running season never ends. On Saturday morning, 15 December 2018, both of those athletes were on the streets of Albany, Georgia for Wild Side Running's sixth annual Will Run For S'Mores 5K. Plowden was the overall winner, going 17:59. Hay was the first woman in the race, placing second overall in 18:39.Courtland Buntin took second in the men's standings, coming in third overall in 19:25. Austin Thaxton was the third man and fourth overall in 19:30. Carl Plowden was the fastest master runner in the race, finishing as the eighth man and tenth overall in 20:52.
Just ahead of Carl Plowden, Amanda An finished ninth overall in 20:51, the second woman in the race. Twelve-year-old Trace Bridges, a seventh-grader on the Deerfield Windsor School middle school cross-country team, placed third in the women's standings and eighteenth overall in 22:38. Sara Ostrander, the women's winner of the 2017 S'Mores 5K, was the top woman master and fifth female finisher in the 2018 race, placing twentieth overall in 22:51.
129 athletes finished the 2018 Will Run For S'Mores 5K.
